Panning material from a old gold mine in N.C. This little rock refused to get out of the pan.Only this & some gold flakes remained. It easily scratches glass.Breathing on it my breath disappears instantly on it.
I think the topaz wouldn't stick around. White sapphire or a small diamond would be my best guess. Try a digital microscope to look for crystal faces. All three minerals have different crystal habits. The sapphires will have numerous sides to them, the topaz has a really neat structure, the diamonds mostly pyramidal habit. I used to know all that stuff but have forgotten most of it.
