Does this look like gold in this Smokey/Clear Quartz ?
I can usually always tell but i really dont want to crush it and i dont want to crack it. I found that while prospecting for gold in Northern Virginia, Goldvien area part of the gold belt? I've had it for 4 years now and I'm still wondering, I know it's just a pic but I hope someone can identify and also any ideas on how to bring it to the surface......like sandpaper?

Thank You,
Brandon. 20140907_192103.jpg 20140907_192125.jpg 20140907_192112.jpg 20140907_192125-1.jpg 20140907_192125-2.jpg

Only way for sure to know without opening it is with a decent metal detector like a Gold Bug. You might be able to take it to a local prospecting shop and the owner could try theirs on it for free. If you wanted to smoothen it up you'd have to run it in a rock tumbler.

My thought from the first picture was a definite no. My thought from the last picture is a maybe. Good eye picking up that rock. Maybe you could dissolve the quartz in acid? If it were me though I would probably carefully crush the rock with a hammer on a steel plate and see what it is.
