If there is placer, then more than likely there is a lode supplying it. There are no "hard and fast rules" when it comes to geology.

All you can do is look and try. Maybe you'll find a new mining district.

I've driven through those areas countless times, but it doesn't hurt to prospect, as you don't know until you get out and look, but do yourself some research on the area's in order to know a little of the mining history and geology of the region, so your not just wandering around in areas that have no potential whatsoever. Just keep your lips sealed on what your doing. There was a company that was hoping to open a mine in the Ortiz mountains, but it ran into great opposition by the folks of that area.
