gold panning in N.C...found this gem?

me and my cousin went to a claim around ashville,nc and found a rock in our sluice box that is egg shaped with a glittery green band around it(looks like a flattend pool ball)folks tell me it's a gem called"paredot",does anyone have any comments about it?I don't know??if need i'll put a picture on this contraption

I think peridot is what they ID'd it as. It's going to be a green sparkly color.

Yep it's peridot they mean a variety of olivine.
