I was raised, mostly, in Simi Valley. Left there in '65 after my junior year of high school. Been back twice. I remember there was gold in Piru Creek, but don't know about any in Simi.

How bout some pictures of that gold your finding?

My grandpa used to work a calcium mine back in the 1960’s
I think they were mining an oyster bed..up some canyon road.

I think that mine was way up at the top of Tapo Canyon. In the pic, I have it circled in pink. My folk's 10 acre orange grove is in red, though no orange trees left. There were NO residential streets in there 55 years ago...nothing but citrus orchards.

Yes that sounds right. My mom lived up that road for a few years as a kid.

I remember us stopping by on a vacation and she couldn’t recognize anything. So many houses and streets.

Simi was a good place to grow up. We moved there in '54, and left in '65. In that 11 years the population went from 2,000 to over 50,000. It was 85% orchards when I was a kid. I don't think there is an orchard left now. We had oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, walnuts, avacados, peaches, apricots and more. Now it's all businesses and homes. That's progress of a sort, sadly.
Back then, I think that lime mine was a major employer in the valley.

My mom talks about it like they knew everyone up the canyon...small town. My grandparents all liked it there from what I could tell. I think they did move away around the mid 1960’s

What were their names? I might have gone to school with them. Wouldn't that be a shocker...LOL

You are right. Those areas are hiking trails. I've been to the mine site gold can be found near the beginning of that canyon. I've found gold dust all o0ver the valley!
