I remember this article from long ago. A guy mounted 4-5 detectors on the back of a low trailer towed by his jeep. Wired all the audio in from all five detectors to his head phones. Just drove around slowly in his air conditioned jeep waiting for the big sounds of a big nugget. Then he found one that weighted in multiple pounds. Cannot remember the weight, but he sold it to a Las Vegas casino for millions of dollars. It stood like 2 feet high.

Now that is using your smarts and staying cool. Was this a true story? Maybe someone else can remember it and fill in some more details or correct some of my recollection.

Here is another 1st hand witness story told to me by Larry Ottwell a retired state Geologist living in North Georgia. A Canadian came down to the Chestatee River and used his gold dredge and hit a pot hole. In one day pulled out enough gold nuggets to cover his bed in his cabin. Larry told me this story one afternoon. Larry and written a nice book on gold hunting in Georgia. We collaborated together one summer making a statistical program using SPSS software to predict gold deposits based on all the existing gold deposits known in Georgia.

I do not know which nugget you are referring to, but the largest nugget ever found with a metal detector is the Hand of Faith nugget, found near Wedderburn, Victoria, Australia. It eventually found its way to the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas.

Time for more coffee.

i remember seeing a guy in a jeep without a cab, with a huge coil hanging out over the front.

I guess 5 regular coils would cover ground, but if they are small, they would need to be close to the ground..... hard to do, i would think.

I remember seeing the guy in a open jeep, so no AC, and a huge coil hanging out over the front. I believe this was in Nevada.

There was a guy up around Mohave California that did some detecting with a coil hanging from his jeep and he found quite a few large nuggets, when he passed away his daughter said there were more that he must have buried because she couldn't find a bunch he had showed her. Could be truth to what she said or she could have been trying to get a better price for his land she inherited with a buried treasure tale.
