I just upgraded my GPS device to a new Garmin Oregon 550t.
I have a large database of GPX, KML, KMZ and XML files
I would like to find a windows application that will do the following:

Convert the file format easily from one type to another

Will use Google Earth to place Topo's, Aerial Photos, and Hybrids in the app view screen while I am browsing and editing the files

Download quality maps/Hybrids from the web to convert for use with my GPS unit

Can edit the Waypoint and POI files on my GPS from my PC

The most important thing is that I would like to find an app that I can use to back-up my GPS data and automatically compare the back-up file on my PC with the GPS units memory and update any alterations I may have made to the GPS back-up files on my PC and send any new file from my GPS to my Back-up file.

I spent a lot of hours updating and researching locations to create a GPX file for my unit that will have not only the location but very thorough historical information. But updating my device becomes a chore due to all the hoops you have to jump through to prevent duplicate way points appearing on my unit.

If anyone knows of an Open Source Application that can do all this I appreciate it. Expert GPS is good but expensive. I need 10 applications just to get my PC and GPS in sync. The software that comes with the Garmin is pretty useless. Thanks all
