    Georgia Gold question-white clay

Question to anyone who dredges in northern Georgia. When you encounter an extremely hard white clay layer, do you try to bust through this? If you do, how thick can that layer be? Do you try to avoid areas that have this hard white clay to begin with?

I have found a few pickers on top of this white clay but it is about impossible to get through it. At least, I haven't busted through it. I use a Keene 5 inch dredge.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Re: Georgia Gold question-white clay

you will find color ,sometimes good color on top of this layer.if you get to much into it ,it can cause you to lose gold (the clay will roll through your box and gold will stick to it)sometimes this layer is pretty thick.you will probably do better to skim the top,as if it were smoth bed rock .villa rica has a lot of this white clay ,with very little bed rock.there is gold in it but it is hard to proccess without losing gold. what area are you in?
no matter where you go,there you are!
