    Best rock of the year

    Hey,

We made a find at the diggings the other day. Just thought i would share it with you. Tell us your view on just what minerals make up this rock.

Re: Best rock of the year

My first thought on seeing that rock was bornite, but hopefully some others on here have some more opinions. If you have trouble getting an ID here then you could ask the several geologists at http://www.mindat.org/msgboard-11.html (its free to sign up, no I dont work there or anything I just find the site useful).
The gold is down there dig deeper. If that doesn't work dig deeper...

peacock ore? traces of copper,silver,zinc,......could you post some still pictures using soft light like a 50 watt bulb looks a little to "glittery" to be gold.

Re: Best rock of the year

I am thinking Chalcopyrite with Pyrite.
From what I can tell, good close up pictures would be better.

If you think you have gold a quick streak test should settle the matter.
Rub it against a unglazed porcelain and see what colour it produces.
Chalcopyrite would have a greenish Black streak.
Geologists are gneiss, tuff, and a little wacke.

Here is a close up of the smaller sample in the vid. Its been dried off and is out of the sun so the sparkle is gone. I would put a close up of the bigger piece but the digital camera is dead. FOr this rock I used my scanner but the other piece is to big.
