    Gold on Quartz

Haven't posted for a while so I thought I would post this.

No Story to tell, just got around to soaking a rock in acid. Before and after photo. ( weight after soak was 25 grams )

Luck on your next hunt, Chuck

    Re: Gold on Quartz

Nice etch . That acid work can be a revelation if you know how to do it , and are finding the right type stuff to do it with . I hack out some decent GOR for my parts ,,,, but it ain't like that stuff .

Personally , I like the before state best ................. But the after is pretty damn nice too .

Etching has a big buyer following for sure . Nice piece and nice work . It's purdy stuff either way to me .

Nice chunk of change, Kid Saxon. Beautiful crystaline gold structure. Should bring a premium.

Personally, I'd be scared to death of hydrofluoric acid, though. For anything.

As hydrofluoric will etch glass, what did you use for your holding container? And were there any residual pieces of crystalline gold still in the container after the acid bath?

    Tuberale,

HF is stored in plastic containers, I think but am not positive that in the days before plastic it was stored in in wax containers that were protected by heavy wicker baskets.

    Hi , TUBERALE

Hydroflouric is stored and used in a plastic container, yes some gold ended up at the bottem of the container.

    Re: Gold on Quartz

Can you see crystalline structure in the residual gold? I understand that material may command a premium for collectors.

The gold that was not attached to the main part is identical to what you see in the photo.

Sure looks crystalline. Hope you get some big $$ for it.
