Nope, that's acquired land so claiming is out...sorry.
Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Mountain Walker,
If you are talking of claiming on U S Forest Service land then Underburden is mistaken. You can claim on USFS land. I have two claims and both are on USFS land. There may be some exceptions.

No problem on USFS lands that aren't acquired land which is most USFS land west of the Mississippi.

BLM does not provide forms,Need to contact BLM and find out what form they require and then buy them from an office supply store.

Been a while since I checked, but I don't think South Dakota is East of the Mississippi.
