Hi! My mother passed away earlier this year and we found a box full of these rocks in storage. We think the were may dad's (who died over a decade ago) who was an avid rock hunter. He did most of his rock hunting in Ontario and Quebec, Canada but it is entirely possible he obtained this somewhere else.

I'd be so grateful if you could help identify! Many thanks.

Hi! Found this rock in my garden and have no idea where it came from. I have been at this property for 18 months and I work in my garden at least 3 times a week so I find it odd that I would miss something like this. I live in southwest Florida near Sanibel island. My first thought was quartz especially since there is so much in the area. However it stumped me because it appears to be crystals in the outside and rock on the inside with a cave like appearance to it. It also has some red impurity on it and a few chunks of solid white. I haven't done a hardness test on it. I wanted to post it here to see if anybody had an idea of what it is and why it looks so odd in shape (water erosion??). I can run water through one end and it comes out the other end due to tunnels in the rock. Thanks! 20181201_150633.jpg 20181201_150633.jpg 20181201_150509.jpg 20181201_150534.jpg 20181201_150649.jpg

Pretty sure the rock from Florida is agatized coral.

After looking that up I think you are right on the mark. Especially with the white "opal" on it. So cool. I'm a little further south than where they are normally found but this area used to be a mangrove swamp until about 40 years ago so makes sense. Thank you! I would have never found that on my own.

I have a lot of veins in a hill on my property

Hi Friend, may you help me to identify if there is some potential mineral on my hills?
The hill height is over 100m, we made a plain area on the top and then found a lot of quartz veins with different colors and incrustations.
We found also feldspar as golden dust after the machines work that agglomerated in a part of the soil after rain, shine like gold at sun but not in the shadow.
Here what I believe that we found:
Variety of quartz with incrustations
Black tourmalines
Shist
Iron oxide

As extra information... From 30m below of the hill top there is a big granite rock 10m large and a water mine where when we dig to make a waterhole we found a lot of quartz also

Follows some pictures:

IMG-2097.JPG
This can be scratched and looks to have iron oxide?

IMG-2098.JPG
This is a quartz perhaps with black tourmaline?

IMG-2100.JPG
This quartz have a 2mm incrustation of black which I looked using lens and seems to be dark green

IMG-2106.JPG
Finally this one also was found and is attracted by magnets, is very heavy, I tried to sand it but was unable to see any scratck from sanding, I remember to see a red translucent part looking at this on sun light

Hey guys if you have any rocks you want identified,, or are having a problem with the composition, Post it with questions, and a brief summary of where you got it..I'm down to help!

And I love to play Stump the Chump!:coffee2:

Here's a piece of petrified wood that when placed over a bright light glows a beautiful redish orange. I have a few other pieces with seams of the same yellow crystals. Is it amber or some type of quartz I'm seeing?

Good afternoon! I hope you are still identifying unknown specimens for random people. I think it's pretty awesome of you! I found these in the trails by my house in Southern California (Orange County). I am thinking they are a variation of quartz but the rich white surface and the grey almost dull blue core is throwing me off. Your expertise would be much appreciated as I am dying to know! Hi Dusted, I've had no luck at finding what this is. I found it midway on the baja california peninsula. BajaCA-1030.JPG BajaCA-1020.JPG BajaCA-1030.JPG
