Clear crystals

I found this rock the other day, thinking it is dolomite? it weighs about 4 or 5 pounds (maybe more)and it has lots of clear crystals in it. I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about it? I am looking for a value of it as well. From S.E. Michigan Thank you in advance

That's a phenomenal specimen heartsongs! Great photos as well. Looks like some complex intergrowth of Quartz crystals. It's kind of tough to distinguish the terminations with specimens like these but some of them appear to be Pseudohexagonal crystals. An exceptional specimen. There are also other minerals present as well, making it a combination. I would have someone check it out in person to put a value on it.

What is it?


I found this while hunting Petoskey Stones at Christmas Cove (Lake Michigan) on the Leelanau Peninsula in Michigan. I like to think it's a footprint. Any chance that's the case?

I would try posting your specimen over in the fossil forums. It appears it could be a fossil impression of some sort.

I would also like to know what this rock is, I've found some of it that's almost the exact same. Tends to break or shatter easily, can have sharp or pointy edges but is smooth, i liken it to obsidian but it's not as hard or glass like.

It's Serpentine a super hydrated silica. You will find it in quantity in the island formations along the outer edge of the subduction zones in Washington/California/Oregon.

They appear to be hydrothermal in origin. Are there springs nearby?

Lots of what I believe to be magnetite in my area but what is the greenish part? it polishes up well too. Pict on minedat.org says titaniferous magnetite.

I found this rock in an area known for silver, gold, and copper. It looks like the same color as Galena, but it isnt the same easy-to-chip-off consistency as galena. Any feed back would be appreciated, thanks!

Started prospecting around on my property recently (after watching some of the Gold Rush TV series) and since I live in Motherlode region of California, figured I had a reasonable chance of having good stuff on my property. So here are some of my better finds:

Anyways, it would be awesome if I could get these identified for sure. Any help is greatly appreciated. These were just in my yard, I live Edson, It's a small oil industry town of about 10000 people in the Yellowhead County, Alberta.


Again, same thing with this rock, just alot more of what I believe is mica

And this one I think is really neat. My Dad said it's from a coal mine. I was able to pull a large piece off of the back of it and tear pieces off with my hands to look inside. There were lots of VERY shiny and reflective whites specs (I think it could be carbon diamonds. The sediment of the rock is extremely compacted, and seeming as how this is a coal mine rock there is the possibility, though they wouldn't be pure diamonds...)

This is just a different rock, a bit of plant fossilization. The big white spec right above the big black circle looks exactly like the other specs from the other piece of rock just before this.

But I failed and instead The rock I was using broke in my hand and I got a blood blister, a bad one too... But all went better than expected. The rock I was using broke into this piece View attachment 1160858 PERFECT! Just like a tree cookie, the black spots have very fine fibers of something, and the red striped spots on the previous pictures of this rock actually have shiny tan-ish brown specs. And to think all of this was in my yard.

Oh, and Here's a chunk of coal the size of my head!

It was all the way under the stairs of my porch, I had to use a stick to get the other rocks out from under there.
