    T2 or MXT

Getting back into the hobby after being gone for almost a year, had to sell off my detectors due to being laid off( nice little vacation). Used to own 2 tesoros the silver umax and cortes, a fisher 1270 and the minelab x-70. Wanting to try something new. Going to pick up a garrett gta 550 for a back up. ( always wanted to try a green machine ) But I can't decide on a main detector. T2 or the MXT. Don't want to open Pandora's box, I know both machines have a loyal following. I hunt mainly old homesteads and local parks, I live south of Wichita, KS just north of the Ks/Okla. line. Just looking for pros and cons to each. If I can't decide will probably get both and try them and then sell the one I don't like. Thanks for the help Derek

Depends on your need. If you want versatility and depth, yep the MXT would be a good choice as it has some good large coils, but it comes close to and tops 5 lbs with a few of the larger coils (i.e, SEF coils) . If what you need is speed and light weight, then the T2 would be the better choice. I wish there was a machine with both (closest might be the F75, but its a bit squirrelly around any kind of EMI). Good luck in making your choice. Personally, if I were getting back into it, I would probably choose a Tesoro and forget the Target ID. It takes a little time to figure out what its telling you, but a Tejon is one of the deepest, lightest relic machines out there, for a good price and has a lifetime warranty, and no EMI issues.
Relic hunting consists of a series of misadventures interspersed by occasional moments of glory.

    Re: T2 or MXT

There's now a better range of coils for the T2 both small and the large SEF's. If you get the MXT which does have a better build quality you may well find you need to change to a Double D coil straight away whilst the stock T2 coil is good in most respects (apart from being a pain to clean).

I prefer the T2 to the MXT as its so many machines in one case, so light in use and has a lightening fast recovery speed. The one thing that might sway me is if I wanted to gold hunt.

Either is good but on my ground the T2 has the edge. Got to say though that I.D. meters are a very mixed blessing and a Tejon will have you digging a larger percentage of unwanted targets but it will pay off in older finds.

Well couldn't decide so picked up both. The Mxt was purchased used, it's a year old and came with an in line probe, and 3 coils 6x10 DD, an excelerator 4.5x7 and an excelerator 10x14 DD. The T2 was purchased new and came with the 11in coil and the 5in coil. Looking forward to learning both machines. Derek

I've been trying to decide this same thing...MXT or T2. After trying both what is your opinion?

I hunt all types of soil for anything (relic, prospecting, coin shooting, cache)...my QD II won't go very deep (if it works at all) close to salt water or the highly mineralized soils in deserts. I was thinking the MXT for versatility but I've been hearing an awful lot of good things about the T2 lately.

    Re: T2 or MXT

You have to consider that the same guy designed both and the T2 is a much newer detector (though if not buying new you do need to check the T2 version, I had my first two replaced).

Not many problems with either if you get a T2 6.0 or later but mine creaks with a large coil fitted and there were reports of the handles snapping off. Free repair under the U.S. five year warranty. We got charged. Whites don't have build problems as their metal box design has been developed over many years.

Learn that MXT and its an awesome machine for sure. It finds very small targets very deep, I love mine and have some great finds with it. Good luck and HH.

MXT PRO. It has everything the old MXT had plus tone ID, Backlite and ground grab. As close to perfect as you can get with a knob machine.

    Re: T2 or MXT

Sorry guys haven't read the forum in awhile, didn't know this thread popped back up. Just an update I ended up keeping the MXT. Now I liked both machines just seemed to keep grabbing the MXT more. I guess I just liked the feel, seemed to feel like it was built just a little sturdier. I don't think someone can go wrong with either detector. Derek

    Re: T2 or MXT

I have used both and preffer the T2. Same designer with a 5 year difference with advancemnet in technology. THe depth, sensitivity and most importantly speed for target seleration in the iron gives the T2 a clear advantage.

I understand that no matter what any one tells me about detectors i always go back to what feels right to me. ..............For no matter what some one tells me about detectors i always go to the one i think is better........... Did i repeat myself ......... sort of........

Just looking for inputs myself because almost anything would be an upgrade to this BH QD II I've been carrying around for the past 7+ years!!! It's very frustrating to watch that other detectorist follow me around and pick stuff up that it missed!!!

It happens to everyone, if it didn't you wouldn't find anything when you searched an old park!

    Re: T2 or MXT

You might consider the SEF 10 x 12 coil for the MXT. I've found ,you can wind up the sens to +2 1/2 no probs, and it hits on targets a whole lot better and deeper. The other bonus is,it's light weight
