Air Test: Minelab Safari vs Titan 2000xd (aka Bounty Hunter 2200)

Just for fun I did an air test comparison of my Safari vs the Titan 2000xd aka Bounty Hunter 2200.

    Nickel: Titan=7 Safari=13
    Dime: Titan=6 1/5 Safari=12
    Quarter: Titan=7 1/2 Safari=13 1/2

Titan had the sensitivity to max, Safari at 18. Depth is in Inches

In my test garden which is only a month old and in mineralized soil both detectors are able to detect all coins at 5" with no difficulty and accurate display all but the penny which registers as Iron on the BH.

When I move to the 10" row the Minelab is the only one to detect all coins. It also displays correct numbers on the display. The BH does not make a peep on any of the coins in the 10" row.

Although the Safari trumps the Titan in depth. After detecting for a while I have learned that separation and information is more important than just depth alone. Also light weight is a true blessing. There is no doubt the Titan would do ok for much coin hunting, it's light and inexpensive but you really do need to run it wide open and dig every target over 5 inches to be sure.

After using the Safari for a few weeks now I feel that the BH doesn't give enough feedback of what's under the surface. The three tones and generalized discrimination is just not enough for me but should be good fun for a beginner.

What is the differance in price of the two detectors?

LOL! That was my first thought as well.

I guess if you hunt flying coins it's best to drop almost 4X as much $ and get the Safari. But still - twice the detector for four times the cash seems like you lost ground.

The Titan is actually very good on shallow clad. If my goal was to dig recent coins in normal soil you are probably right.

So in this thread the reasoning is you get what you pay for, while in other threads, it's "why buy an expensive detector when they all have the same depth, and it's the user that makes or breaks a detector?"

I wouldn't look at my post other then it being an air test.

The Safari kicks some serious bootang. It stomps on many detectors I have compared it to so a Titan2000xd was to be expected. My point was not if the extra depth is worth it or not but to merely show a comparative air test depth difference between the two units.

I don't see how user experience will get a detector to go any deeper in an air test but that is irrelevant. I'm not a dealer so it makes no difference to me which detector someone buys in fact, I would prefer everyone uses a low end detector so there will be more left for me!

But seriously, most of my finds so far could have been recovered with either unit however, most of my best finds required the additional depth from the Safari.

I bet most $80,000 cars generally will out do most $20,000 cars as well to --at least I would hope so after spending 4 x the cost of the 20,000 car--

its not surprizing that greater depth ( say twice as deep) is got from a machine costing 4 times as much as the the "other" model --- now if you got the cash to spare and your goal is seriously hunt old coins and relics ( hunting at great depth -- lotta digging ) and you will use the machine enough for it to be worth while to you long term and you have the skills and time needed to handle the more "advanced" machine --go for it --go "whole hog"--

however for many folks detecting needs and the type of hunting they do --a less costly machine that works well but not as deep, is fine.

    Congrats on the purchase!
I am currious, how does your Discovery 3300 compare to the Titan2000xd air tests?

Hey JohnnieWalker...........Sorry to say....I have sold the 3300 a year or so ago. It was a great machine though and the price was right. Yesterday with the new safari was a real pleasure. I actually had gotten a whites mxt 300 from kellyco about 2 weeks ago....I didn't like it at all...sent it back and got the safari yesterday......now last night we got at least 4" of snow
