I might be biased but I would say the Sov GT. Depth isn't as important as ease of use and light weight.

Re: Minelab Verses Minelab
I've owned both. For relic hunting and flat out depth the GT is better, but the 705( I actually had the X-Terra 70) is the better coin hunter in my opinion.

Re: Minelab Verses Minelab
The sovereign for depth however if it's trashy then the 705 with it's concentric coil and fast recovery will find you more stuff but they might not necessarily be deeper.
Depth is sometimes overrated, I would be more concerned with recovery speed unless detecting beaches and plowed fields where there is little trash. For example, my Minelab has much more depth than my T2 but I consistantly find more with the T2 (in parks) due to it's faster recovery, light weight, and easy swing allowing me to cover more ground on a particular day.
Digging 12" bbq pit sized holes in a park doesn't go over too well with the crowd so you end up cutting back the sensitivity on the Minelabs anyway.

Now for me i have used a lot of different detectors but with the Sovereign................ I go against what every one has to say about trash filled parks....... I can go in there and pick out the good stuff with out a problem. With my Sovereign ............... Better than i do with my single Freq. detectors But with me slow recovery is not a problem..... For i swing and hunt slow i got no reason to hurry. I like the slow recovery .......... There are a lot like me but all you hear is the ones that have to hurry and swing fast. And complain about what we like take our time & enjoy..
