Machines With Battery Insert In Amrests-- Water Resistance?

I see alot of the newer machines like the Minelabs upper end Safari's, etc. and Fisher F-75, Teknetics have battery compartments
    in the upper shaft armrest.
I also see the earphone plugs on some of them in the upper shaft.

If you get these armrests wet in the rain will they short or damage the unit?

If you get these upper arms wet from the rain the headphones can be inop. It would really take a good rain to get water inside the battery compartment and water traveling down the shaft will fry the guts. Same for getting water in the lower shaft and raising it above the control box.
