What are the rules when detecting in a park, public area? As in digging plots etc! And what about old land where the house has been demolished and taken away? And open sports areas that are sports grounds on weekends but walk your dog on weekdays?
Do you need permission? And if not whats the worst that can happen?

Different states have different rules. As far as parks, it also depends on the state and even down to the police officer and HIS interpretation. List your state and maybe someone from there can help you out further.

Remember....fill all holes and don't do anything that will bring the hobby into a bad light.
