Re: Help with "GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL"

you could try your local legion post or maybe Dept of Veterans affairs.
bad part is they used that same medal for quite a while, so it may be tough to
find the actual owner.
the medal was first activated in July of 1960 and discontinued in 2005, but is currently being reviewed for reinstatement

Actually... it's back now... just within the last several months.

PM me the name and I'll see if that person is still active duty.

Re: Help with "GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL"

Could be Army or Air Force, see link below. Don't know if the AF engraved theirs and if so when they stopped. My Dad was in the AF from 1962 to 1988, I was in the AF from 1986-2008. None of his or mine are engraved. AF GCM was approved 06 Jul 1960, but wasn't made until 01 Jun 1963, between 18 Sep 1947 (Birth of the USAF) to 01 Jun 1963 AF personnel were awarded the Army GCM.

Re: Help with "GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL"

I'm not real sure, but I think it might be researchable through the Department of Veterans Affairs. They may have access to DD214 paperwork(section 26) and can at least narrow it down by the name and location found. There were many more GCM awarded than say, Bronze Stars, etc. I don't think that they will give out names with addresses. With some coaxing, you might get them to forward YOUR name and address to potential owners to be able to reply to you.
I'm guessing Vietnam era...

Good luck and best wishes,

Re: Help with "GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL"

Thanks all for the help. I was able to locate the son of the person the medal belong to.
Said his father died last year, so he will give it to his mother.
His father served in two wars. He was grateful to have it returned.
Sending out out in the mail today. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:
