A Very Heartwarming Experience Returning a Dog Tag

A very special package came in the mail today, but more about that later. First, lets look back to one of my finds.

On July 1, 2010, I dug up my very first dogtag at a grassy area near the beach. I looked at it, and said "Sweet, my first dogtag!" I flipped it over, and I saw a phone number and the name of a dog. I decided to call that number when I got home. Little did I know that it would have such a profound impact on someones life.

When I came home, I called up the owner and said that I found a dogtag with the name "Sena" on it. The dog owner was very happy, because sadly, her dog died in April of this year. I offered to mail it to her, and she gave me her address.

    6 days passed.

And on today, July the 7Th, 2010, a package arrived in the mail addressed to me! I opened it up, and much to my surprise, I saw a box filled with goodies inside of it. It contained sweets, a 3,000 yen gift card at a book store, a very heartwarming letter, and pictures of her dog. Amazingly, the dog tag was lost on July 31, 2004; over 6 years ago!

I encourage people to call the numbers on the dog tags that you find, because you never know, it could mean the world to someone out there. The tag that I found might of been platinum, because it was made by a company called "Tiffany Metals", a company known for using very expensive metals in their products. But even if it was, I would've still gladly handed it over to her because I knew that it was worth more to her than it was to me.

This is what the letter reads:

"Thank you for sending Sena's name tag. She passed away on April 6th, 2010 very suddenly. Today is her 3 month anniversary of her death. She was 12 years and 6 months. She loved to play at the Kugenuma Beach (Where I detect) and it was a part of her everyday routine. I can not thank you enough to express how much I appreciate you finding the name tag which could of been lost very easily playing in the sand. We tried looking for it, but eventually gave up. The entire family is happy that you found it, and we truly believe that it was a gift from Sena in heaven. I am enclosing the photos of her with the name tag. The dog tag was lost on July 31, 2004. It was buried in the sand for over 6 years! It's amazing that you have found it after so many years. I understand that you moved away from Kugenuma (A prefecture in Japan). Please stop by when you come to the area. Sena's brother Andy will greet you. Please accept our humble gift to show our appreciation. Please take care.

    Thank you very much again,
    Yuriko Nishimura"

    Great job!!!

Having lost a dog that was very dear to us, we know what a loss it is and how much it would mean to us to have someone find a tag of hers. WTG!!!
God bless our veterans! Thank you for your sacrifices!
