A few weeks ago I found this class ring at a site I hunted 52 times last year. My last find there in 2010
was a 1911 barber dime and my first find at this site was a 1983 HS class ring this year. Amazing what
can be missed, had 5 other T-netters swing at this site also last year.
The ring did have a name on the inside and so the search was hopefully going to be a little easier. Opened
the phone book to the last name and there were 2 with the same last name but not the first. I called the
number of the person that lives close to the site first. Got to talk to an answering machine and gave my
number and reason for calling. Later that day a woman called me back and said the owner of the ring
was a relative and gave him my #. A week goes by and I didn't hear any thing and last sunday he called.
Meet him yesterday and gave him his ring. Did get a short story that he lost the ring shortly after he got
it but couldn't remember where he lost it. After 28 years he has it back. HH DFW

WTG Rich! The story should be in the local paper. They're always looking
for unusual bits and our hobby could sure use the PR.

Great story DFW! Its always great to hear when us detectors do something that isn't selfish. I hope someday I can find the owner of a lost ring. It would be worth way more than the $ for scraping it.

Your right about returning the ring being worth more then the scrap value, I've returned at least a half dozen over the years and have always felt good about being able to return them even for those that were not so appreciative (I've had more thank you's then not). I always felt what is theirs is theirs and they should have it.
