2 Rings & Earle Liederman fitness metal. Rings returned to family!

I made it out for a short hunt yesterday. The place I went to is an early village here in central Pa. I was hunting an area where an early grist mill was. There is a lot of iron buried deep at this place. Good targets were hard to find and I'm sure they are there somewhere. I found one new zincoln cent, 2 rings, a metal from the Earle Liederman Physical Culture School and about 20 pounds of iron. The one ring is marked sterling and has initials on the face. The other ring has Masonic symbols all the way around it. It is marked inside - MONEI which I'm sure is probably MONET. It looks like pewter and my XLT called it a nickel. This village once had over 100 people living there. There might be 15 or 20 people living there now. I will keep working it and the old stuff will come out eventually. Thanks for looking! DD.

The ring appears to have some age to it. Is it gold?

I talked to the property owner of the site where I found the two rings. The initials on the silver ring matched that of the previous owner. The guys son lives nearby so I gave him a call. I asked him if his father lost a ring there. He said his father lost a Masonic ring. I told him about the sterling ring with the initials. He told me he remembered that ring. His father had Alzheimer's and went to burn paper one day and came home without the rings. They looked for the rings a long time with no luck. I asked him if wanted them back. He said he would love to have them back. He just couldn't believe after all these years both rings were found. They were no where near the spot they believed they were lost. He stopped by and I gave them to him. He thanked me and asked if I wanted a reward for finding them. I told him no reward was necessary. I was happy to return them. He is a Mason and he told me he would wear his fathers Masonic ring. The happy look on this guys face was priceless. It made me feel good just returning them and making his day. DD

Awesome man. The greatest treasures of all are the ones you give rather than the ones you recieve!

Congrats on returning the rings. The Masonic ring could be marked "monel" which is an alloy of nickel and copper. Although wikipedia doesn't mention it being used for jewelry. The article says it was used for military dogtags in WWI and WWII, among other things.

Congratulations to you for returning the rings. I bet the look on that man's face was well worth the effort of digging the rings and locating him. Your karma couldn't be higher!
