Got a phone call from my former insurance agent who remembered that I had a metal detector. He was helping a neighbor out, mowing her lawn when he noticed his pinky ring was gone. The ring was very special, a gift from his wife. It was a 22 karat with two nice diamonds. She had given it to him over 30 years ago. Just before he retired they decided to fill the hollow back of the ring with gold. A great ring now was a very impressive ring. He had been mowing with a rider and was almost done with the yard when he noticed the ring missing. I had a brand new, just unpacked Whites V3 and I decided at least for the first try to use this new machine. I checked the vdi of my own wedding band and started hunting. I made it the entire width of the yard with some good signals but nothing shallow. He was getting sicker and sicker about the loss as the search continued. I started a pass along the side ditch in the front yard when the Whites lit up. I pulled it back, looked at the vdi, glanced at the ground and realized I could see the ring lying on the ground. I bent over in one smooth motion just as he nervously said aloud that he hoped we could find it and laid it in his hands. He stared at it, couldn't believe it, and teared up as he realized his ring was home. He offered a reward and I told him all I wanted was a picture of the ring and his smiling face. What a way to break in a new detector.
