Very nice!!! Almost makes you wish you won't find them, LOL!!!
So true. It was as depressing as it was exciting, but I did have a good time hunting down the owner. I'm just waiting for him to reply back :)

Nice find. Be sure to takes lots of photos of it so that you can keep the photos for bragging rights once you return it to the rightful owner. The rewards from returning it will be much bigger than if you kept it. You may get leads from others when you talk about returning the ring, you might get invited to Florida!!!!! Who knows, but you will feel GREAT when you return it, trust me. Besides, your karma will be blessed. ;)

Class ring going home after 20 years in the dirt.

Well I finally contacted to owner of the ring I found over winter break and he was so surprised that he thought that one of his old friends was pulling a prank on him. After I told him that I was an avid metal detector searching the beaches along the Carmel Highlands in CA, he became overwhelmed with joy. I never had a class ring so it is hard to understand how sentimental a class ring can be but to him it was priceless. He asked if I wanted any money but I passed and and told him that his happiness was a perfectly suitable reward, I just wanted the story behind its disappearance. It turns out that he lost the ring while drinking around the rocks with his buddies during the summer of 1988. I allways use to look at all the rings that were found then returned on this forum and thought it might be kind of a bummer to find something nice that you knew would have to be returned but it was quite the opposite. The excitement of seeing the first sight of gold was just as rewarding as seeing the ring go back to its home.

Wow, Congratulations on returning the ring. It sure is a nice one! Hope you get a picture of you returning the ring to the owner. I always try to get a picture and then put it in a scrapbook. It's kinda neat to look back over the years and looking at all the rings you have returned.

Again, Thanks for being one of the Good Guys. You make the hobby really look good. We need all the help we can get!. It is always a great feeling to return something that has been lost to it's rightful owner!
