14K Gold Medallion Lost – Found – Returned!

We were at our fresh water swimming hole at the beginning of the season when there was some commotion at the ropes. My son’s friend and his family were frantically searching the bottom in waist deep water. His dad had just lost a gold medallion from around his neck. We all pitched in to help but to no avail. Because of this incident I started shopping for a hand held underwater detector that I could use at the beach without attracting too much attention. My ultimate goal was to find this medallion and return it to the owner! I got his cell phone number just in case I happened to find it.

Fast forward to my fourth time out at this beach with my Vibra-Tector 730 [My 3rd trip to the swimming hole had gotten me 1 clad quarter, 1 clad dime, a Scotty Monopoly piece and half a ring with a light blue stone]…

…anyway, my finds now consisted of a piece of copper tubing, 1 clad quarter, 1 clad dime, 2 Lincolns, an English 20 pence coin and a junk earring. I snorkeled back down to the end of the ropes where the medallion was lost for the 4th time this season. Today was different. BINGO! A shiny dime sized disc appeared in the bottom of my plastic sifter. It was a St. Christopher medal with 10k marked on the back.

As soon as I got home I texted Chris and asked him to describe what he lost. It was an exact match! It was his lost medallion! I made arrangements to bring it to the beach where I was able to reunite it with the happy owner. :hello2:

Thanks for Looking!
Nick

Thanks! Now the Life Guarding staff considers me to be the cool guy with the metal detector who found and returned someone's lost jewelry (instead of the weirdo who plays with underwater sand toys :laughing7:).

It is such a great feeling to be able to return a lost item to it's owner...especially when it is an item that has great
personal meaning to the person that lost it. Well done and congrats.......:hello:
