This was my second time back to a permission at a friend’s home. The first time I found a couple of buckles, some old nails, a large harmonica reed and a few wheat pennies ....and junk. I figured I would give it a second shot.

I started where I had found some wheat pennies, dug my first hole, and out pops this big ole silver ring!

It was so large and I never pulled out a silver ring before! I also knew who it belonged to, so I eagerly anticipated giving it to the family of the deceased owner.
Later I dug another silver ring. It was missing the stone so I tried mixing water in the dirt from the hole to try to find it, but no luck. Ironically, given the title of the post, I found a squished metal cover of “3 Merry Widows”. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510111496.766106.jpg ?3 Merry Widows? Tin | Museum Collections Up Close : MNHS.ORG
Definitely was there before this family was....1920s-30s.

There were also some other interesting items...buckles, spoons, iron, old clock parts, and ?

The best part of the whole hunt was visiting the owner’s wife (who recently moved away from her long time home...She looks amazing at 91!) and returning the ring to her.
I do have a short video of it, but I don’t see how to upload that from my phone!
Perfect ending!

Very nice finds ! The Bell Trading co. ring almost certainly had a small round turquoise stone set, this can easily be found in whatever size is needed ( millimeters ) if you are nowhere near the Southwest ,try Riogrande.com - they are one of the biggest jewelers supplies in the world ! Based in Albuquerque -Probably a couple bucks or less to get the stone for that .

Thanks, Argentium. I returned that to the family as well since they had four daughters and it most likely was one of theirs! Your info. is good to know. Thanks for sharing!

I love the silver rings, especially the golf one! That is unique. Congrats!

Thanks, washingtonian! I do believe the ring was a one of a kind as it was specially made!

Wow, Underwonder... It's bitter-sweet to return the ring... Great you got to return it and you did the right thing... But, it's nice to keep, if you didn't know who owned it.

I laugh every time I find a Merry Widows lid.. lol they must have been the only popular brand back then haha

Got our first 1/2" of snow yesterday... Ugggg Happy Hunting

Thanks, basssmann! the return was so worth it just seeing her reaction, which I videoed but can’t figure out how to upload from my phone. That memory is worth more than any ring especially since I knew her husband and daughter... both of whom passed in the last few years.

This was my first 3 Merry Widows lis which I had no idea what it was....and was never on
my bucket list ;)

Snow...oh no... I have acquired some new permissions and won’t have enough seasonal time to get to them! I sure would like to spend time there before the snow flies here!

Nice rings but I think the golf one is Lustrium not silver. Some kind of proprietary alloy from Jostons that holds up in the ground as well as silver. I found a class ring made from it myself with the same markings
