Seeker Of Lost And Purposely Discarded Antiquities
June, 1973...Downtown Naples, Italy...3:25 a.m.
I was in the Navy, stationed at the U.S. Naval base in Naples 1973, and was walking back to the main Naval base from the NATO base across town at 3:25 a.m. (one of the rare nights that there were no cabs in sight) after a night of beer and slot machines with my buddies, when I saw up ahead what looked like a bill lying in the gutter.
I came upon it, thinking it must have been and Italian bill, but I was shocked to see, lying there a U.S. $100 bill! I looked at my watch to get the exact time of this unusual find, and it was 3:25 a.m. exactly.
The date and time of this unique find have stayed fresh in my mind for 37 years!
I can only guess that another of the guys coming back from the NATO base must have dropped it when he (she?) too, couldn't get a cab that night!
(Sorry...no pic...I spent it a long, long time ago!

Some of the Mostra girls were some bruts!! Then the little Italian kids (I'd swear some were no older than 8-9) coming up to You and saying 'hey Joe..You goy smoggie "cigarette" And the fruit stands everywhere! I did work for NASA down there setting up missile guidance etc. I kissed the ground when I got off the plane in the US!! you do not realize how good You got it in the US. T When I was there Naples was a poor economy but the people were warm & welcoming.Do You remember Soccer day & all the craziness it was..people driving their Fiats down the sidewalk & just the way the people loved the game of Soccer.Did You go to "Sulfatara" the volcano that blew its top & now You can go into the crater for a tour?So much to write about Naples & it was a great place to visit..especially on New Years Eve. as they use real gunpowder in the fireworks!!

Napoli, I stopped by there a lot (1979 - 1981) while on the USS John F Kennedy Aircraft Carrier, visited Pompeii, it is a great place to visit, plan on going back there when I can.
