bad depiction of detecting people

The reason I'm putting this here is because I just saw it- on the TV. jeeesch!!!
A "Farmers Insurance" commercial- on the beach, where a man is swing his detector- over the body of another man (who is wearing a gold necklace), He then reaches down and grabs the gold and takes off running.
I don't know about you, but that P!$$'s me off!!! They are depicting Us as opportunistic thieves and putting a very bad lite on this great hobby .

I wish there was something that could be done about it. Dunno- any ideas?

Hey Jeff, you must be one of those guy's that doesn't care about how you are perceived by the public, and I have to admit that I don't care what the neighbors think either. But the fact is there are way to many areas that are off limits to detecting already and this national commercial- seen by millions- gives them the impression that we are no better than thieves. Do you like being labeled a thief by a national corporation just because you use a metal detector. I don't like it at all. You know how influential the media is to those who believe everything they see/ or hear from them- some even take the news as 'gospel', which generally it is far from.

I agree Jeff Gordon. This is television and a funny commercial. It's not real life. It's not even made to seem real. If you believe everything on TV I feel very sorry for you.

The people offended by this commercial are WAAAAY too thin-skinned! It's a commercial! Do you really think ANYONE seeing that is going to think that's what we do? I guess every dog owner in the country should be offended too since they surely must be destroying everyone else's fences.

Even worse concerning that particular commercial is that it teaches children that bears are able to ride motorcycles.... I don't know about anyone else but I am outraged ! I have a good mind to buy some Farmers insurance and then run with scissors.
