Hello,

I have a small place up in St. Marie's as well. My wife and I checked out the St. Joe due to the extensive mining history and not only did we not find color, it was nearly impossible to find a secluded beach or area worth prospecting. There was massive amounts of people floating the river even 30 miles up..if you don't mind running with a hoard of drunk teens passing every ten mins, I would recommend heading south towards Emerald creek area. I'm in the Clearwater drainage area 1.5 hrs south.

Good luck!

I've also wanted to check out the St Joe river. However I think I'm going to check higher up to get away from the "vinyl hatch". Looking at the geological aspect of that area, there should be gold!

However I've also read that the St Joe is closed from recreational prospecting. Because of how government or EPA labeled that river. Does anyone have any insight on this?
