My first Silver of 2009,and second on Jan 3rd 2009

MY 1st Silver fINDS....on JANUARY ---1 st--- 2009

I called GOIO today & asked if he might want to go for a short hunt.....We agreed on a place,and talked about the possibility of finding our frst silver of the year...
...................................We stayed kind of close our first 2 hours,and kept shaking our heads N O at each other signaling we had not yet found a coin................................After a while GOIO said he found a Presidential Token.............Cool...........at least we won't get skunked........................................... ...
...............Just about an hour before dark..........I got a penny signal at about 4-6",and after digging about 4"......I rescanned the hole..........The target was now out of the hole.............................I scanned the dirt,and got a glimpse of the shiney..................................I do not know how to get the pics to post properly,,,,,,so I will give you my PhotoBucket shots.......

The last 2 pics above,,were after I cleaned the merc up with lemon juice & Baking Soda..............

The only other thing I found today was a clad dime at about 5".........LOL Go figure..............AND,,,,,,,a bunch of screw caps and can tops................................I know GOIO will surpass my finds total at the end of 2009,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,But atleast I have the satisfaction of finding........................................... ....

You are definitely getting an early start for the year. What are your goals for this year?

Main (1st )Goal is to learn my equipment as quickly as possible.........After winter is done..........We will all be rusty ,on our first 2-3 hunts come March ,or April thaw.I will be studying my Manual and Andy's book for the next 2 months.
(2nd) Goal is to find 300 silvers by years end....GOIO said he had 274...for 2008 ?..............And he only got about a good 1/2 years detecting in I think.
(3rd) Goal.........Is Find Some older....Seated coins ,,,Large cents......2 and 3 cent pieces, flying cents ect.........There are alot of firsts I think are posible this year.
(4th)Goal is-- To go on atleast one C.W. hunt this year.....(Maybe with my buddy Wendell,as his family has a farm driving distance from my dads[Near Knoxville] in Dandrige TN,,and he goes down there to hunt 2-4 times a year).....When I do I know I should be able to find bullets and minnies.....but my goal for my first C.W. hunt would be to find a button...................then I could make a case

As I have been detecting over 12 years now.....but not even 1 year with the E-Trac.....I will consider this my learning year with ET,and Minelab.......I would like to be able to help others with the ET ,but how can i do that when I really don't know the machine that well myself ? I WILL be Reading books and posts all winter,and getting out to my test garden to check myself when weather permits.

(5th) Goal.........Get out as much as possible (Which is a Must to be able to fulfill my 2nd and 3rd goals),and to do it with GOIO,and Ta SnowmanFromTX...as we live close enough,and will be trying to research sites together......Hope my Gavin Legend CX can help us in that area.

WTG Dave!!!!!!!!!! That is great. Its nice to know the ground isnt totally frozen. I am leaving tomorrow and will be back Sunday morning. I gotta thaw my trailer and then do some shopping but then I will be ready to play. I got out yesterday for an hour at an old house I had found along time ago. It was all grown up and trashy as hell. I ended up with 3 memorials. lol. Glad to see you guys getting out. SMAN...

Me and GOIO hit the woods today...Where I found my second silver of the year,and 3 wheaties..............
I found..........a 1936 merc,(Cleaned with baking soda /water,& soaked in lemon juice to prevent tarnishing)a 1940 P Jeff.......McNickle,and a 1911,1919,and 1939 wheatie t,,,,the 1919,and 1939 wheaties are still soaking in peroxide......................I thought I was doing good. Pic below.

Goio ...........not finding a silver on New Years day................Had to be a Hot Shot ,and surpass my finds by finding More wheaties,2 Very old McNickles, a silver dime (at least as old as mine, and 2 VERY OLD Silver Quarters !!!).............I will not say...........
{Leaving it up to GOIO}........But the only way they could be older is if they were seated $^@^$#@%)&^^ LOL

On that sunday.......(January 4th 2009)...........Snowmanfromtexas,GOIO,and I went woods hunting........I found my 3rd silver for 2009.....only 1 behind GOIO now..............................................
..................I did not post because I thought there just might be one more hunting day in January......
..............But seeing the weekend was a bust,,,,,,,,,,and this week may only be single digit temps.............
......................And snapping in to the reality that I will not get to hunt again till March or later........
I decided to post my last silver find .....which was January 4th.........a Silver Quarter

Even tho I have 3 silvers for the year (so far),and GOIO has 4...............I am confidant that Brett,and TF will probably get more doing their CRH.....than I will get Metal Detecting.........HH all
