"No" Hot Rod Flaming PJ's for luck this hunt.
Here's from the last 2 hunts.
Sunday I pulled the ROOSEVELT DIME ( 1963 ) from a previous hunted yard.
Today I went back to the vacant lot where they tore down a house and filled it all in. ( The Hot Rod Flaming PJ lot )
Here's the post from that.
Spent about an hour there.http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.p...,226215.0.html
Found an 1882 IH at 2 inches and it was standing up on side straight up and down.
About a foot away was the 1889 and it was 5 inches down.
I tried so hard to find the third one.
Got lots of junk and a pocket knife.
Question ? Why does the 30/30 ( not fired ) have a yellow plastic ball in the tip ?
Thanks Bob

Bob, those IH's & pocket knife are VERY nice
(you would have found more if you were wearing your matching PJ slippers )
Take care bud,

Random chance seems to have operated in our favor

Nice going. FYI, the yellow tip is additional protection. Less chance of the next cartridge going off during recoil by jamming against the previous primer in a tube magazine. That's why ..30/30's are always either a flat or round nose bullet.

Great hunt Bob!
Found a couple old live rounds with yellow tips but no bullets on the tip, those are blanks for ceremonial puproses. These are found at old Flag Day celebration sites. Your's is a 30-30 so as Stoney said, tube-fed round designed to keep from actuating the primer of the next round in case of shock.
Was really looking forward to a shot of you swinging that coil with those pj's on... or not!

Good going Bob!
You probably had those PJ's on under your pants for luck.

Nice Injuns!
The polymer ball tip is designed to assist in rapid expansion of the bullet.
