Thanks to WaterColor,Kimsdad( Get Well Neil )Treasurefiend,Lowbatts,D-Dub,TrashNCash andLookn4seated.
Nice to meet up with you all.
Hope everyone had a good time.
It was a thrill to see the old coins get pulled out.
I knew the place had potential and that was proven today.
I'm not saying who or what was found, but some good stuff was...
Seeing someone find something good is as good , if not better , than you finding it you yourself.
Again THANKS all of you for coming out.
See you at the next hunt...
I wish I could have gone into the woods swinging with all of you, but it was good to get together for coffee beforehand and see some familiar faces and put faces to the new (to me) names, too. It's great to see some young(er) guys in the hobby!!!
It sounds like there were some nice finds out there!
Neil
God bless our veterans! Thank you for your sacrifices!
Great to see everybody!!! For beind such an old site I planed to dig most of the iffy signals that I got just so I didn't miss and old coins.
Im not gonna take a pix of my finds but I did manage to pull:
1919 Wheatie
A LC size smooth copper disc (I seriously doubt that its a LC, maybe an old cow tag or something but who knows its thin, smooth on both sided, and smashed up)
a few old lead old seals
a bar of lead with a hole through 1 end measuring 1/2"x3"x1/4"
14 or 15 old shotgun shells
3 fired old lead bullets
2 buckels
pocket full of iron, foil, & slag
Lots of great relics and coins found today but everybody found older coins thatn me. LOL
Hey man, just woke up with a pile of Banquet chicken bones and an empty soda bottle in my lap! Didn't have the time, it always eludes me, but yeah, gotta soak the thingie I found still. Gonna do the wonder on what it is, and how much chicken the cat got, cool place to hunt!
Had a great time meeting and hunting with everyone today. I look forward to another hunt like that. I managed to find a few goodies which I will post in a while.
Watercolor- Congrats again on that beautiful find. I look forward to your post. I heard the "Whoooo-haa" about 50 yards away with the headphones on.
Thanks Bob for putting the hunt together. It was great meeting all of you. Need to work on some of your names. Didn't find much else after the first group left and we left just in time for the down pour. Great timing. I haven't had a chance to go through all of my finds yet, but I will post when I do.
I'm with Bob on the "OH SH#%" response! That was awesome! Didn't get a chance to see the first coin out of the hole so I'm looking forward to Watercolor's post.
We definitely need to do it again. I had a great time.
Hey Bob,
Found the place, the 1838 plat shows that thing I told you looked like the original road/bridge crossing there from the '38 aerial..
The top map is from what year?  and the bottom is from 1838 right.
What site did you say you got them from?
Like I said I haven't been able to locate anything as far as maps go for the Des Plaines area
Do you think that's the same area? or is that bridge a little farther south.
LOOK at the homestead just north over the river.
That could be one of those cabins I was talking about.
GOTTA LOVE THIS HOBBY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Happy Hunting from Des Plaines IL ( D P Bob )
Looks like some really nice finds there!
I hope to get out Sunday if the weather holds up.
On that piece with the patent date, it does look really old.
But didn't patents back then run for the life of the patent holder or 50 years or something like that?
So the patent date is not necessarily the manufactured date, right?
Very cool to find no matter what... :-)
