    1st Railroad baggage tag

Well after getting my work finished today, which included finally taking my Christmas lights down. (Yeah, detecting has kinda been in the way of silly things like that.) I got a call from Brett to go tecting, and we decided to go to the old farm site that gave up a Merc and war nick to me a couple days ago. No sooner do we get there and Brett digs a sweet (see his post) about 10' from where I dug the Merc. Well, as it turned out, it wasn't going to be a silver day for me but I did get a couple wheats back to 1919,,, and this cool Chicago & Western Indiana RR tag. Established in 1883. I wonder if they still want it back?

That tag doesn't look like it, but in real life it's nice and thick and heavy like a belt buckle. Very cool find Dad! When we were there I told you your 1919 wheatie was the oldest coin dug, but I'm going to have to retract that now since I got the 1918-s (8 over 7) SLQ

    Great find, John!!

That's a better find than many silver coins are, and it will look superb in a display!!

The tag looks good enough to ask the question, who's pocket was in it when it rang up?

    Nice digs!
