Got out today to an old farm site close to home. I obtained permission to hunt this place the other day
and had to weed whack to get the coil close to the ground. Found 3 wheats the other day, so today I brought Brett with me, ('cause he just bought a new weed whacker) :laughing7: Well I scored on the silver first, but then he proceeded to kick my butt with a great first for him! Tomorrow I'll be picking up a 6.5 HP walk behind weed whacker to make short work on clearing these old sites.

Thanks guys! And Neil,,, don't know if it's a hair thingy or what? Guess I should run it by the wife for an opinion.

Anyway, I went back to the site for an hour after dinner tonight. No coins, but I did manage to squeak out a bit more silver. Either somebody made some really hot Chili or this spoon was in a fire. :laughing7:

Cool, that's a big chunk of sterling :) And to think, I weedwacked that area AND hunted it and didn't find that big 'ol spoon. Like I said, "I was pre-hunting it fast for the easy signals" and then I never went back over it slow... like when I got the half dollar.

Re: Farm site hunt---still poducing silver!

Well I noticed yesterday that the old farm site had been mowed, so Brett and I went back this morning for a quick 1 hour Fathers Day hunt. No coins found today, not even clad. It was time to go as my daughter is in a parade today, and we had to get ready for that. Brett had already packed up his gear and was walking over to me as I got a Zinc cent signal at 5". Well, I wasn't going to leave empty handed so I dug it up. Much to my surprise it turned out to be a '45 Merc. :headbang: Brett has a video of this one and may post it after editing some inappropriate language. :laughing7:

One on the way out works just fine, good to hear that site did the trick again!

And yes, it's a hair thingy. Comparable to what we call barrettes.

Re: Farm site hunt---still poducing relics!

It got wayyy too hot at work today, so I figured I would head over to the farm site where there might be a little breeze to be had. Well it was even hotter there but at least I was digging. ;D
More relics than coins today but it was fun while it lasted..

HH !!

Yeah, its a old phone bell Tim. Brett found the other one on a previous hunt there.
What I'm still trying to figure out is what the multi-tool is on my first picture. When I first dug it, I thought it was a small anchor,,,then I noticed it has an anchor stamped on it. Pretty sure it was made by Anchor Tools, but for what I have no idea.

That tool brings to mind an old fence wire-working tool but the hex nut drive seems to indicate some highly standardized fixture.
