    2nd silver, fist merc!

    Hi all,
Hunted that notorious silver beach for a couple hours after work today. They were fencing in the area where all the excavation had been done, so I was just focusing on cleaning up any goodies from the fourth. To my great surprise a dime, which I assumed was going to be clad, showed a beautiful silver reeds--1942-d merc!. Within 10 minutes I found a 1949-d wheat, and then later another wheat. Not bad when I went without much in the way of expectations! I've only been hunting since late March, but now I can cross a merc off the list. I didn't have to clean any of these coins either!

Plus last Saturday hunted a preserve. Found this cub scout kerchief holder and also ring. The ring is stamped "Lia Sophia." I found the ring in a fall 07 Lia Sophia catalogue. That is one hefty cz -- 19 ct. It said the retail was $66 Who would pay that for costume?

Actually it is only about 3-3.5 feet tall. When I got there they had the Southernmost portion up, running from the concession building up to about 8 feet from the lake. They had rolled up fence sections. As I was there they began work parallel to the lake shore, and were putting the fence not only around the outer area, but it looked like around that little inner pond as well. Typical metal post, I think the sections themselves were either tightly spaced wood or plastic slats, I wonder if it is as much to keep wind from blowing sand around as it is to keep people out. There appeared to be no real entrance, but of course I did not see the finished product. I don't know if they want people out or if they just want dogs out (as the signage says). Had it not been for their working, I would not have moved to where I eventually found my dime.

Cool cool cool man! Congrats on your first Merc! I'm surprised those wheaties came out clean... you must have hit a magic spot there because all of the wheaties I've seen were "cookied" with green crap. Gotta love those shallow silvers that you can just scoop up with your fingers! Hopefully they don't completely fence us out.

Ahhh, beginner's luck. You'll be stuck on clad for the rest of your life.... NOT!

Great hunting! Keep at it and keep us posted on conditions. Sounds like erosion control fencing as much as anything else. First real strong storm blowing in from the lake should fix that.
