I'll bet you'll pull out a LC from there yet!
Maybe there's a little half-dime in that locket.
Wouldn't that be SWEET!

I agree with you on he locket being the find of the day. I just want to find out as much as I can about it, and what's inside of it.

The picture of the locket doesn't do it justice. Hope you find a way to get that cleaned and opened without ruining it. I wonder what's inside?
I'm not going to make a special post on my finds since Jon faired better than I did. I got a pouch full of trash, two mems, and a no date buffalo. It is getting super dry out there. Hopefully we get some rain to soften up the ground and give the detectors a little bit of an edge.

L4S,
When you say grove what are you describing? Please don't give me any detail on the location of your grove just an explanation as to what type of a place this grove is?
I have tried without much success to stir up conversation on the Iowa section of the forum. So since there is nobody wanting to share stories or get together to hunt on the Iowa section I am over here to crash this party as the Illinois section is much more active from what I have been reading. Seems like you guys are finding some great things lately also.
Great finds!
HH,
Dave

Hey Dave, ever talk to the folks over near the quad cities? They seem like a nice enough bunch and I've been to a couple of their open hunts. But of course you're welcome here anytime.
In this particular instance, a lot of us hunt the old groves that are now part of the local parks or forest preserves where allowed. A lot of these places have seen dramatic changes over the last 150 years, from original groves or tree stands, usually near water sources or out in open fields. Those that became picnic areas a long time ago saw a lot of weekend usage by city people from Chicagoland, some became inhabited or farmed, then abandoned and bought out by the townships or cities or counties as parks and preserves. Many of these still have undeveloped areas, wildly overgrown in many instances, where there were parks 100 or more years ago. Most have been hunted well over the years but there's still a few keepers there and as newer and better md'ing gear gets used there they give up a little now and then in pockets here and there. Hope that helps.
Jon, the locket rocks! It looks like a keepsake box from a watch fob to me. Here's a couple shots of mine, the trefoil, or clover leaf, indicates it belonged to one of the 2nd Corps, Union Army vets. Probably held a locket of hair or a small picture at one time. Can almost hear Garry Owen playing when you open it...

Re: "AWESOME" Grove produces once again! Sorry, pics added now!
Thanks for the reply and explnation of the groves. I don't think we have these types of places in central Iowa though. Or if we do I just don't have any knowledge of them. Maybe that is where all the guys from Iowa are hunting and they are keeping it a secret.
I always check in on this part of the forum as it seems you guys in illinois are finding things more regularly.
HH,
Dave

Now that I look at your pics, I think that's exactly what it is. How do you think I should go about cleaning it? Do you think there's a company that would clean it and maybe restore it?

Check with a jeweler who does jewelry repair. Probably be able to get it restored.
