    Another Marlin Perkins moment

5 hours into the hunt we (Mayo and I) were still trying to figure out which junky signals would return the goods, since the good signals were returning the junk. Then Mayo let out a little yelp and I went over to see him cursing the bumblebee. He unearthed it on a good signal that turned out to be junk. Man that bee was mad, but was too tired to fly.

He did get a wheatie or two, only to lose one, and I got this sweet mother of pearl tie tac way down in the nether-dirt. Mayo also found a broken cross, and a cluster find in a small pile that included panty hose, panties, safety razor and cigar tube. Then a crackhead appeared and we left that park for another, his soul-less stare and torched-glass affect compelled us to move on.

We started where we left off, this time though the clad was coming much more steadily but a curious pit bull became our constant digging companion, often waiting until I pinpointed the target then sitting on the exact spot. Hmmm, M-O-O-N, that's how I spell dilemma. Try as I might he seemed intent on protecting the sunken wealth of Elginites gone by. Saw what I thought was a worm but it turned out to be a dekay snake, barely enough life left in it to wiggle, perhaps dropped by a passing bird who may also have mistaken it for lunch in front of me.

A few bucks in clad, an old tie tac, a couple wheaties, some downy woodpeckers and a beautiful day to play outside. Unless you were playing for Da Bears....

Glad you & Mayo could get out and catch a few rays, snakes, bees, dogs. . . you ARE
the Marlin Perkins of Elgin, or is it the Pied Piper? Anyway, it's nice you could get out

(Last Wednesday, I almost stepped on a Garter Snake on the way back to the car :P)

Interesting and nice stuff there, Tim! Sounds like you guys had a wild day!

What is it with you and the wildlife lately? I'm wondering if we should "Keep back 300 feet" when we're hunting...

That pit bull reminds me of my mom's dog. When I hunted her yard, she had "left a present" for me on at least half of the good signals.

Thanks for not posting a pic of Mayo's cluster!

God bless our veterans! Thank you for your sacrifices!

When I find multiple objects in the same area or same hole, I sometimes imagine how those things came to be in that spot but the above mentioned cluster of objects defies explanation. Or imagination. I could come up with all kinds of weird scenarios but I'm not sure if there is still a Penthouse Forum that would accept the story. I did NOT bring those items home, so they're not photographed!

The bumblebee was my second bumblebee in almost identical situations except the first one (a couple or three months ago) was in Evanston, the second one today in Elgin. The first one stung me (no gloves) but the second one didn't get me. They were about 2 inches down in relatively soft loamy dirt in the woods. They come up as mem cents on the minelab. And coincidently, mem cents are found around or under them. Maybe the bees have copper deficiencies.

The coins were only clad with the exception of the 2 wheaties (one lost after being found) and the Elgin Department of Transportation Token was kind of cool to find. The shaver still had a blade in it and the lighter had no markings.

Nice finds and interesting account. Too bad about that Dekay's snake. Kermit and I came across one that was freshly run over on a bicycle tire tread last year the the camp, wrong place at the wrong time for that little guy.

When I was up in Michigan a couple weeks ago, we visited a "haunted" cemetery out in the middle of the woods, in the middle of nowhere. We took the neice and nephew there because he tell them it's haunted and they get a kick out of it. On our way out, an adult Thamnophis sirtalis crossed our path, so I grabbed it for some photo ops with the kids. Strange that it was out this late in the season, that far north. We ended up going home the next day, driving through a surreal snowstorm. Hope it made it down in the ground...
