Close again - those darn seated dimes are teasing the crap out of me!
No finds posted by me lately - I had some stuff from the last few hunts, but decided not to post them until I had some silver in the mix. I had a feeling today was silver day, and I was right!
Last few hunts I managed to pick up a '20 buff, an 1898 V-nickel in nice shape, a couple of '04 Indians, my first intact CJ toy - a replica of a revolver.
I also picked up a shiny belt buckle out in the woods. I thought it was a chrome plated deal and left it in the car for a few days. When I took it out and cleaned it, I noticed it's made by Crumrine of Reno, NV. A little research told me that they make higher end buckles that are brass and plated with 99.9 silver, and some with gold highlights. The one I found isn't in their current catalog, but a similar one sells for around $75 new. Man, does this thing sparkle!
I also picked up this little item that looks like it is copper. It came up in two separate pieces. Looks like the shape of an old hot water bottle. Anyone know what this thing is?
Today, I met up with Bob & Mark. About 90 minutes into the hunt, I found an old bakelite hair bow clip. About ten feet away, I got my second ever intact CJ toy - a horse. Then about ten feet from that, I got a deep high tone and dug a 1920 SLQ. Good deal! Rescanning the hole still gave me good tone, and up came an 1892 barber dime. Second one this year... Those darn seated dimes are teasing the crap out of me! Also in the hole was a nice '20 wheat.
After checking that area out for a while and finding a piece of crumpled aircraft aluminum (probably from a smaller plane crash in the area at some point in time), I headed over to where Bob was pulling out his silvers. I figured I'd given him 2 hours to get them all since he called to say he was getting lucky. Within five minutes, I popped the Merc. Also got another buff there and some clad & wheats. Here's the goods:
It was a fun day with a couple of good buddies! It was good to see finds coming up! Sorry for the long post, but this one has been a long time coming. Thanks for checking it out!
God bless our veterans! Thank you for your sacrifices!

What an awesome hunt(s) That buckle is soooo sweet!
And that CJ pistol is to die for. . . (I'm still looking for one of those :P)
I think it's time to put "Plan B" into action. . . soon. . . before the snow
takes over. How about tomorrow if it's not too heavy?
I'd really like to get another Standing (or ANY silver) before Santa arrives
