Hunted a private yard on Saturday during the heat of the day. Started out with zincers and copper Lincolns a clad dime then
this brass thing with a green colored lense. Thought it was a knob from an old car window crank at first but there wasn't a
hole in the middle. Held it in the sunlight just right and then I could see it was a compass, was able the take it apart but
couldn't get the water out. Home owner wanted to open it up to see. I was ready to call it a day when the home owner said let me move the car, they have a grass driveway. 2 clad quarters right away then a great signal at 3 inches, Wow a walker!!!

Nice walker! I'm still waiting for my first one.

That green compass reminds me of an item I found once at the bs camp. I didn't know what it was, still don't. It is aluminum and has a green glass peice just like yours, but it definitely isn't a compass. I thought it may have been part of a car since it was so close to the road. I'd look at it again but I think I tossed it.

Great hunt,

Joe

Did a little digging through my old finds - I remembered that I had found one, too - last year at an old, old site. Mine has a little stand on it. I didn't know what it was until I saw it again. It's all dried out now, and the lens has popped off. It's definitely a compass. The lens was totally dark from being in the ground so long, so you couldn't see the face through it.

The back had very hard to read corroded engraving "MARBLE'S GLADSTONE MICH USA" They make iron gun sights & knives, and it looks like they used to make match safes and compasses.

Here's one similar to mine that's listed on ebay.

Turns out the "stand" is a plate to hold a pin.

Thanks for the memory jog!

Thanks for the info guys on the compass. Neil, I couldn't see any engraving on the back using my loop but
I did notice two spots on the back that may have been rivets or very small screws.
