Some people have been telling me a microwaved peroxide bath is great for copper and some have told me its bad. I thought I would test it out on a wheat penny before I drop my indian heads in. It did clean it up pretty good but also did darken the color of the coin. Here are two before pics, and two after pics. The 5th pic is the Wheatie on the left, and a normal zinkin on the right. Notice the different type of bubbles coming off the coins. I let it sit in the peroxide for about 5 hours.

Hey Jason,

If you can determine that the coin is a common date, as most are then take a pencil eraser to it after the peroxide bath. It'll shine up just fine for ya.

If it is a key date, yep, leave well enough alone until you decide whether or not to have it professionally cleaned and graded.

As for the zincolns, tollbooth fodder indeed!
