After work hunt this morning
Hi everyone. I hit a city park this morning for a few hours after work. Ended up with a nice '43 merc (my first ever from a city park) that's in GREAT condition!! Silver no. 10 for me this year....also got 2 wheats ('52D, '58D) and 2 toy cars to add to my growing collection. Clad totaled $2.22. Pics below. Enjoy!! PS- the merc was very shallow, only about 2 inches deep. VERY surprising!!

What coil you got on that ace and how did it sound when you targeted it? I still have not gotten silver with my ace : (

Jason- I use the standard 6X9 stock coil that comes with the Ace. The merc signal was bouncy between dime and junk (the notch between zinc penny and dime where either zincolns or screw caps usually show up). I decided to dig it anyway, and there was either a zincoln or a copper mem cent in the hole also (can't remember which). After rescanning and getting a solid dime hit, I realized I'd flipped the merc out of the hole in the loose dirt. I was VERY glad I didn't scratch it. Remember to always use care and take your time when digging. I've been lucky, and only lightly scraped one silver coin (that one a common date '46 Roosie on edge), though I have scraped a lot of clad coins. It's always a relief when you find out the coin you scraped is only clad. Again, remember to take your time and dig wide around and under the area where your target is showing up. Do you have a pinpointer? If not, GET ONE ASAP. They really do help. I recommend the Garrett ProPointer; they cost about $132 with tax. If you need any other pointers/tips with your Ace, just pm me or post here. Good luck. You will find silver eventually. I bought my Ace a year ago (August of '09), and didn't find my first unassisted silver coin (a nice '57D Roosie) until this past spring.

Gimme,
Stay focused on finding that silver with the Ace and don't let anyone tell you it's impossible. Paul is probably the best spokesperson on here with the Ace. In the past, Kermit and I were pretty successful with it as well. We were happy. Good luck and don't forget that a lot of us used or still use the Ace. Ask away!
