Also in todays finds.. Great day with the etrac !!

rayzhell (jr) and I decided to hit the old park again today.. We just had a nice rainfall over the last couple days, the first one in months.. We figured detecting should be good .. To us wet ground is .better and it sure did pay off today... He was swinging today and got a nice high signal.. Well at about 6-7 inches out comes an Indian head.. All he could make out was his nose.. Luckily we were only a few feet from the parks water fountain and did just a rinse .. Man, was Ray surprised when i told him that it was an 1877 indian head.. Sorry no reverse pictures yet we have it sitting in r.o. water now.. Thinking of sending it in as it sits.. Maybe let them clean it..

Re: Also in todays finds.. Great day with the etrac !!

I am still so excited i found that Indian. Cosmic and me have pounded that park for 5yrs now with several different detectors. We have made so many great finds there including a 77cc dime a 76 seated quarter, and my personal favorite the Bowan & McNamee token that has a strong likelyhood of coming from Abraham Lincoln's pocket. But this Indian isn't on our list for collecting so its gonna go up for sale. We still need a double dime for our denomination set or a type 1 standing liberty quarter for our 20th century type set. And this coin will cover most of the price for either. So does anyone have suggestions on a good and cheap place to get it cleaned and possibly graded?? Thank you everyone for the nice posts and happy hunting to all you Illinois dirt fisher's

    Contact ANACS at
    http://www.anacs.com/Default.aspx
see if they accept dug coins for cleaning/cerification.

Re: Also in todays finds.. Great day with the etrac !!

That is one awesome find!!! BTW, if you just soaked it and it looks like that, your soil is really nice on IH's. I usually have to use peroxide on a toothpick, but I would not do that to an 1877! Have you posted this in Today's finds? That might be a banner worthy find. And I am reporting it as so.
In the pantheon of slabbing, ANACS is pretty lowly regarded, though I'm sure they'd grade and slab that coin. I can guarantee that PCGS wont touch it. NGC may be a hair better than ANACS and NCS will clean/restore/preserve and send to NGC to grade. I know people here poo poo NCS/NGC and I've never used them, but I think they are a little more reputable than ANACS, especially when you are talking about a coin that will easily fetch at least $500 and maybe more (Redbook G-4 is $900).
