well thats not quite true. u see im already a lifetime resident.
im moving my posts here.
from the todays finds board.
im not bitter. its nice to see tnet growing. but my finds just arent up to
the level of most stuff posted on the big board.
we cant really compete on the level with the far eastern states
that have colonial coins. then theres the europe crowd w hammereds and ancients.my finds look so paltry in comparison.
so im gonna swim here in this smaller pond.
i like to post and share after each hunt even if its only clad.
i hope i can do that here w out being embarrased by small finds.

Re: im moving to illinois
Your going to create a domino effect, which will bring all those guys to the east into the central thus making our meager finds seem like nothing...
Thats an honor for you to do that.. I always thought we IL guys and gals are a better bunch of people then other sections of the world..
Welcome

Scrounger,
Welcome to the madness. BTW, don't underestimate the potential these guys here have. We might not be East Coast, but a lot of old and interesting finds are made by this forum's members. Stick around. Stay tuned.

Re: im moving to illinois
Welcome Scrounger!
Don't be intimidated or discouraged by posts showing finds that you think are "better" than yours.
This isn't a contest so just post whatever you feel like posting. Nothing to be embarrassed about regardless what you find.
I find the stories that go along with the pictures to be as entertaining or more than the pictures with just a "Here's what I found today". Creative embellishment is fun to read
For me it's all about the details - which I usually forget anyways.
Did you get a signal that sounded like silver, and dig down in between two thick tree roots in 95 degree heat, fending off swarms of killer bees or mosquitoes, and carefully keep digging little by little for 20 minutes because you didn't want to nick the coin - only to finally get it out from 7 or 8 inches deep to find that it was a mem cent? It's happened to more than one of us but we like to hear about this stuff so that we know we aren't the only ones digging clad or tons of pulltabs or rusty bent nails at 10 inches of hard packed gravel.

Re: im moving to illinois
Well Scrounger, welcome......and I live in Minnesota. Seems that around 37 yrs ago I escaped Illinois and moved up here to central Minn. The findings aren't that great, but a few are. Heck, I was out last night for 3 hrs and my findings were one military button, a war nickel, 4 Memorial cents, one Wheatie, a new wooden pencil, and a new red marker. The last 2 items were found on a kid's playground. And you know what? I had a blast! My motto? The OPPORTUNITY to detect is all I ask!

Welcome Scrounger!
I seldom post or have time for Today's Finds and sometimes people seem standoffish there. The people here are cool for the most part and I am sure you will add to that. There is a good sense of camaraderie here. This board is the one cool thing about living in this state (at least as far as I am concerned...). Look forward to seeing your finds...

Re: im moving to illinois
I've been reading everyones replies, as I often just head to the main board of "Todays finds" also. Seems like this Illinois bunch is a closer knit group, so I to will be a convert of the sorts & head to this forum more often. I do more reading than posting of my finds, but I enjoy seeing what everyone else out there posts. I'm only able to get out once a week for now, but do make some nice finds when i do. Maybe I will again find something soon worth posting.

Welcome to the Illinois forum. Don't worry about the big board because as a plumber friend of mine once said while unplugging a toilet at a restaurant I worked at "Your crap is my bread and butter". It's all a matter of perspective.

Yeah, I may have posted once or twice on the Today's Finds forum, but man, unless you found a pirate's chest full of gold coins, your post sinks down to the bottom of the pile faster than you can say Fort Ticonderoga, if you can SAY Fort Ticonderoga (if you can say anything, lol). And then nobody really reads your post or views your photos so you end up with a bad feeling of having wasted all that time and energy. Over here, we've got a comfortable pace going. We are a good mix of goofballs here.

I agree in part it is due to the perceived quality of find, but I also think that it is in part a popularity contest. I think if I read and replied to a lot of posts and tried to fit in with the culture of that board, my posts would get a little more attention. I see some people who are out east even, and all they ever post are rusted matchbox cars and clad, and 20 people respond. I find a Shield nickel, and post it cuz to me that is a huge find (along with a couple V's and a nice Fob) and it'll get 2 replies. So either you have to be in the "in crowd" -or- you have to have high quality finds or both. I can only assume one get's in the in crowd by reading and replying to every single post including the rusted match box cars -or- by regularly digging Reales, colonials, and other high bling items. I didn't much like junior high school, so I have no use playing popularity contests... I like the people here on this board and will reply cuz of that instead of some give and take in the popularity game. But that's my 2 cents and I feel like being an @$$ right now.
