First post in Illinois Forum, any help on old Chicago parks?

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on different parks to hunt in or around Chicago. I have the day off of school on friday this week (I'm only a sophomore in high school ) and my dad took the day off work as well. I'm trying to get him to go to a Chicago park for a days hunt and I hope to have an old park or two with some proven oldies to tell him about (preferably a safer area as well). Any ideas and suggestions would be great, and I'll look forward to reading them and getting back to you.

Most of the old coins are 5-12 inches deep
Most parks along the lake front north of the city are safe.
South side parks are well hunted but not hunted out and are deep old coins with a lot of trash.

GoggleEarth the city and the area. Check the box that will outline the parks in green and it will show you a green tree in that area indicating it as a park....pick out a few parks and give them a try.....

Just to be sure, are there any parks where detecting is not allowed? We would be coming from about an hour and a half or so away and it is probably a one time trip, I wouldn't want to get kicked off in our one shot.

just remember to COVER your holes, take your trash out with you....and in parks I like to use a drop cloth. if you keep it neat, you should have no problems.

Thanks, we always make sure we bring a drop cloth and always cover our holes, we were taught well by an old pro We're still not sure exactly what park we are going to, but we have got it down to about 4 or 5.

Jackson park has some oldies and so does washington. Both have produced well for decades. TMAN...

Good basic advice.

There's good stuff at pretty much any park you go to. I believe all parks have potential. Of course, it depends on what you're looking for. You probably won't find seateds at Oz Park, but you might find a ton of clad. On the other hand, if you focus on the real old parks or smaller less-known parks, you have a much better chance at pulling some interesting historical coins or relics. Good luck buddy,

Thanks guys, we'll make sure to keep that in mind. To me, it'd be great to just come back with any kind of silver. I've only gotten 1 so far this year and 1 last year, so thatd be sweet.
