silver x2 at stubborn park w vintage machine

i have hunted this old hs football park at least 25x.

much of it w my etrac.

old coins rare there 1 v nickel and about 12 deep wheats

how i wondered if any silver was left.

after the rechargeable pack on the etrac died.

i reach for the next closest machine w batteries in it.

    happen 2b my 1982 fisher 1260x.

so im out there and get the large copper disc.

bigger than silver dollar marked 500.

surprised to get such a large piece out of area

    where i hunted hard.

next the 41s merc. 1st silver coin at this site. geez.

dug so many iffy etrc sigs here trying every trick

to score a silver. hit it esp hard during the rain.

noway. so here i come w 28 yo machine in bone

    dry conds. bingo. 41s merc.

took a few steps n removed a lrge trash target.

rechecked the hole.and the 63 roosie.

i almost fell outta my shoes.

    etrac still first machine obv.

but u cant find unless the coil goes over it.

Way to go Scrounger! First, 28 years old or not, the 1260 series are deep single freq machines.

Also remember, bone dry ground is the best ground for target separation period. That also means better depth. Generate an EMF field over wet ground, and reactive minerals become a much bigger factor in masking because of higher GB need and resulting lesser depth on marginal targets.

The only drawback is making sure you're not damaging ground beyond it's ability to repair the plugs you dig. A factor that negates this somewhat at this time of year is the shorter days, cooler nights that bring moisture back into surface areas every night.

    Were these goodies deep?

Most likely the ETrac would sing on these targets too, if it hit them at the right point in the swing whereas if the ground were very wet or moist, the 1260 might have missed them due to GB and small trash masking. Just a few more reasons why at some times, it's seems the detector is less of a factor than the multitude of other variables you run into when detecting.

P.S. I like that collection of detectors you gots!

Very good point Scrounger, doesn't matter what type of machine, your
coil must go over a target first, then the operator contols the next step
to finding goodies. Do I dig or not, Do I give up on a target or just blame
it on the machine that my pouch was empty. Way to score on the goodies.

I knew this thread would be music to LowBatts ears. The old Fishers are great and still in demand. I know the Fisher 3D with the right numbers, still fetches top dollar.

Re: silver x2 at stubborn park w vintage machine

nice backslaps guys. and i learned on this thread too.

i never considered dry ground good hunting.

i was always anxious for wet weather and the halo effect.

now isee how this same effect could cause problems

in high trash areas spreading the ground mineralization

yeah them old fishers were the thing back then

    i bought a 1220x new on feb 5 1983. a

was walking all over my buddies machines w it back then

just like the etrac does now. ha.

thanks for making me feel at home.

even if these finds are nothin compared to what u guys

    pull up north.
