Iowa Old Fairground Hunt - 10/30/10

I got the opportunity to a hunt a fairground in Iowa on Saturday. The area is now a cornfield but was a fairground from the late 1800s to the early 1940s. It supposedly has been pounded over the years but it still gave up some goodies. Unfortunately, as is typical of these cornfield locations, 50 years of fertilizers eat away at copper and nickel coins. Finds included a 1902-O Barber Dime, a 1918 Merc, 3 IHs (1880, 1885 and 1898), 1900 V Nickel, a Buffalo (date has been eaten away but it is the raised ground variety) and two fried wheaties (not pictured).

to my better site. gas is near 3/gal sux.

we have a park that we go to that does a similiar thing to the coppers, covers them in some kinda green gunk.
Still, they always make for a good hunt! nice job
