First Ill Post -- Old Park yields a 2 day Trifecta surprise!
My son (FF39) convinced me to post my recent finds on the Illinois forum. This weekend I took the day off on Thursday to go out hunting. I started out in a very old park, and effectively got skunked. I was looking for a place to go in the afternoon and settled on a very hunted out park closer to home, so I wasn't very optimistic. To my surprise after about an hour, I ran across a deep signal and ended up pulling out a 27 Merc. Since I had some luck on Thursday, I decided to go back out there with my son on Saturday. I started out getting a wheat about 5 feet from the car. Next was a nice little surpise, a 54 Rosie. We then worked by the street for a little bit and found a 4 wheat pocket spill (39 39 35 27). After about an hour drought, I got a nice, deep signal about 5 feet from a big tree. We got down about 7 inches and my son pulled out a handful of dirt, and I saw that familiar silver shine! It turned out to be my 4th and oldest Barber dime, 1893. I tried for another hour or so to get the trifecta for the day, but was denied the Mercury. But still a great day!

Nice hunt in the hunted out park. I like to work those type of sites at times,
there is always something hiding close by.

Yeah baby them's the goods!
Can you brief us on the Safari? I've read the usual, horrible and awesome reviews.
It's the results like yours that cut through the mis/information.

It seems like a lesser version of an Etrac, but I've still done pretty well with it. The numbers go from -10 to 40, usually copper or silver coins ring up at a 37 or 38. Gets some nails on those numbers too though. I can usually get 6 inches with it, and some spots where the sensitivity is higher it goes deeper. The dime was at about 7.5 inches and that's the deepest I've gotten a coin so far. It does a little unstable at times.
Still considering getting an Etrac though too.

Well 7.5" on a dime is pretty darn good in my book. In fact some of the more stellar silver this year on this forum has come from less than that! I've only dug about 3 or 4 silver deeper than that this year.

It was in very sandy soil too, which might be the only reason I got that far. Usually it only gets about 6 or so
