At what point am I not a newby?
Well guys its been a great year so far. My first detecting year and I've got to ask, "When am I not a newby anymore?"
Is it based on so much time in the field?
How many posts I make in the forums?
How many good finds I make?
How many of you guys I meet personally?
When I graduate from my Ace 250 with stock coil?
When the local cops and city workers know me by name and call me to let me know they are doing street work?
What do you think?

Depends on how you want to look at it, I've only been metal detecting for 4.5 years and I still consider myself a "Newbie".........

I think that's a question only you can answer accurately. Your opinion is the only one that counts on that one!
God bless our veterans! Thank you for your sacrifices!

if you learn something new about this hobby on a regular basis, you're still a newbie.

Yeah, I've been detecting since 1994 and I'm simultaneously a newbie and an old soul in the game (old soul because I'm only 28). I still learn new things every single time I go out.

Re: At what point am I not a newby?
None of us will ever NOT be some varying degree of newbie. There are newbs and there are noobs. The key is to not be a noob.
You will know, Grasshopper, when the time is right,
When detectors are outlawed, only outlaws will have detectors

I think its when you feel as though you are successful with the hobby. I dont consider myself a newbie any longer and I have been hunting strong since 2006. TMAN...
PS Twisted I didnt know you were related to castro. You could be his brother dude. LOL.

Re: At what point am I not a newby?
Having hunted with you a couple times, I gotta say you are dead-on man.
James Dean with a cheap machine you're rocking the digs!
Seen too many old timers pick up that model rig you've got, toss it aside and snub it prematurely.
You took it out and put it in the roughest places, cinder and ash-laden sidewalk beds, and scored with it. Then you hit the field and by doing the heavy lifting got the big reward in those two awesome rings that I saw you dig. All that without whining or complaining or constantly worrying about whether or not you're measuring up to anyone else in the search.
Go get 'em Jason!
