    Illinois civil war

Hello everyone..... Just wondering if anyone has ever hunted the locations of the old civil war camps in Chicago or Montgomery. Ive been doing some research on these camps and it looks like there is some land left to hunt.

Been to sites that had some civil war activity, but all my civil war era finds came from other places so far.

Buttons, pins and the like in parks and parkways and one bayonet in a parkway.

    Were you thinking about Farnsworth?

Ive been checking out the locations of Camp Douglas and Camp Hammond. It looks as though they have built over and landscaped where they were located...but there seems to be some grassland that you can detect there. I wonder if anyone has ever detected there..... Whats Farnsworth?

Yeah Douglas Park is something else for sure. Been there a couple times, I'm betting there's some deep goodies there still, though I got deep trash on my visits, including DEEP clad.

    As far as Farnsworth goes:

Don't know about Hammond, that's a question for our Montgomery area guys if they're still around. Hey John and Brett, been there done that?

But if I'm not mistaken some or most of that Hammond ground is now in Kane County FP ground and is thus off limits to detecting.

The old site of Camp Douglas has probably been bulldozed and filled 10 times since then. Who knows though. I'll go check it out when the weather is warmer.

Hey Gimme, if you go to Douglas Park make sure you go with someone or several someones. Of all the places I hunted with Dave and GOIO in Chicago, Hammond and Gary IN, that place gave me the most creeps. I never felt comfortable for some reason so just some thoughts for ya. TMAN...

Last time there I noticed at least two cars were moving paralell to me most of the time as I progressed along the park's edge. 3-4 guys in each car. Also worth oting is the playground there. Usual kid's stuff, swings, spinners, etc.. Thing is, not a woodchip out of place. Looks like it's never been used. Now that's either creepy or an indicator that it's just not a place to play in.

Thanks Tman. I had a feeling it could be shady down there. Maybe I'll pack the Dessert Eagle when I go.
