    First silver, not again!

Last year by far my first silver of the year, the 1857 seated dime, was my best. It was all downhill from there.

So this year I have further to fall. Here's the ONLY coin I found today. At the site where, when last year, the only coin I dug was Walker.

I swear I thought it said '28 with no mint mark until I got home and cleaned the dirt from it.

It was 4" deep and under a nail. Swinging the coil sideways at an angle gave me a solid dime signal from several sides so I dug and found the nail 1" directly above it. Once the nail was gone, the reading on the F70 locked in solid 96.

    Re: First silver, not again!

Yeah, I was fairly screaming as loud as I could for Mark (Watercolor) and Mayo to get over to the dirt ASAP.

    "BIG SILVER!!!!"

    "REAL EFFIN' BIG SILVER!!!!"

Been many years since I popped one of these out of the ground, seeded hunts not counting.

Thought the big lady had long since flown the coup with the bird for my swingtime.

But no, today the big stick went beep.

A 28 plain woulda been sweet, but that '23 is mighty hard to beat!!!

I got the pic while I was in the store buying new hunting boots. Saw the BS and almost yelled right there in the store!

Wait. If a half is BS, than this should be a BBS!

I'll bet there was some fast & furious smoking & swinging in the area by the others after you found her!

Oh yeah - Banner!!! I think each state forum should have it's own banner so that great bannerworthy finds like this one have a prayer at actually making it!

    WTG, Tim!!!

With the way this day ended. . . with only one wheat in my pouch, I'll just fade into the sunset
with the two spoons I found and eat some humble pie. . . (and all the while think about BIG silver)

    Awesome hunt Tim

Super sweet big silver Tim. Great way to start your silver season and knowing you and how much you
put into your metal detecting hunts you could be on your way to many a silver year.

Girl monster got home from work and it's now in her possession along with the big silvers of many years past.

I'd sometimes wonder where they went...

Kids, ya can't leave goodies alone with them and you can't make them dig their own.

    Re: First silver, not again!

When I first heard Tim yelling, I thought - "Oh great - he fell into a well..."
As I approached however, I could barely see due to the sun reflecting off the silver disk in his hand.
    Not unlike a white laser.

The coin would be the envy of any treasure hunter - except for maybe the guys that found the Atocha or the Black Swan.

I held the coin in my hand at lunch (Thank you for that Tim) and it felt like I was holding a shotput.

Great find and great recovery Tim.
Had it been me, I would have put my shovel right through the face of it since my propointer battery had gone dead.

My take for the day was numerous bits of shredded metal, a tent grommet, a strange button off clothing of some kind, one wheat penny '58, and one tasty Italian Beef sandwich.

I think I have just recovered from the first 3 mile hike of the season.
Time for me to get on the treadmill...
